About

This directory is a project
by The Midwestern Plate.

What is the Midwestern Plate?

A free media resource providing information on
sustainable and regenerative agriculture in
the Midwestern United States.

We help you make delicious and
sustainable choices by connecting you to
your local farmer.

What is The Midwestern Food Directory?

Our goal is to make sustainable farmers and their products easy to find. We have created the directory to make searching for
farmers that align with your values
simple and accessible.

Use the map to search by Zip code, Farm Practices, Products Offered, Ways to Purchase, and even by Certifications.
Additionally, you can find your state here.
We are frequently adding new farmers!

We support farmers who practice
sustainable and regenerative
farming techniques:

We only accept farms that actively follow
these practices and philosophies:

  • Sustainable Agriculture

  • Regenerative Agriculutre

  • Organic Farming

  • Agroforestry

  • Permaculture

  • Biodynamic Farming

  • Rotational Grazing

  • Intensive Grazing

  • Animal Welfare Approved

  • Certified Humane

  • G.A.P

  • 100% Grass Fed

  • Grass Fed

  • Pasture Raised

 How we select farms

Preference is given to farms that have third-party verification certifications such as Animal Welfare Approved, Certified Organic, American Grass Fed Certified, Certified Biodynamic, Certified Regenerative Organic, Certified Humane, G.A.P. and others.

Farms that do not have these certifications
are reviewed on a case by case basis.
In the future, we hope to visit farms that do not have certifications.

It is important to know that getting certified is not always possible for small farmers as it can be a huge financial hurdle to overcome.
Many small farms go above and beyond certification requirements,
without the label.

All farmers work extremely hard to provide
the food that we depend on.
